My music is based on the traditional drum rhythms that we used to dance under the moonlight as teenagers. We call these rhythms Jiti. On the guitar I worked out how to fuse these drum rhythms with melodies that our elders used to play on a traditional thumbpiano which we call mbira.
African songs are often written to educate people and raise awareness of issues around us. I choose my lyrics by observing what happens day-to-day in life. For example, my song, Munhu Rudzii, says how we are often let down by the leaders that we choose. But still, some of us don't have the courage to change them.
